In-Water Tagging Program

The SKSTMN In-Water Program was initiated in 2004 to gather data on juvenile sea turtle populations and their health. Juvenile foraging sea turtles are captured via snorkel and brought into shore where management and health data is collected. Sea turtles are highly migratory, long lived species which makes them bioindicators for the health of our marine ecosystem. Each juvenile sea turtle captured undergoes a full health assessment. All of this work is done with careful considerations given to animal safety and comfort and under permissions granted by the St. Kitts Department of Marine Resources.
